The NAA Visit to Shoeburyness – 9th October 2024

This event has been postponed from 23rd May to allow for more information to be researched and disclosed.  We apologise for any inconvenience that this might cause.

The visit will enable all NAA Members to re-live the early NAA competitions (from 1865 onwards) by standing on the positions of the original firing points whilst envisaging firing out to sea at targets approximately 1000 metres away.

We will be hosted by the Shoeburyness Heritage and Community Centre CIO and everybody will be briefed upon and be able to visit the amazing Victorian Barracks that was built at Shoeburyness and the excellent restoration work being carried out by the CIO.

The draft programme will be:

1030 – 1100       Coffee and meet up

1100 – 1150       Introductory talks from the NAA and the Shoeburyness CIO – what has been  accomplished and what is planned

1200 – 1300     Walking the Ranges, Firing Points and the Camping Field

1300 – 1400      Lunch

1400 – 1515      Walkaround the Barracks and the exhibitions in the Cart and Wagon

1515 – 1530      Reflections, Questions and ‘Thanks’

It promises to be an excellent day. and more information will be forthcoming.  In addition, further information upon those early competitions and the importance of those competitions for both Shoeburyness and the NAA will be published in November and December.
